The Lake Champlain Bikeway has all the ingredients of a premiere bicycle touring destination. ITINERARY
Day 1 - Sunday
Arrival Day- Burlington, VT Our bike tour starts in Burlington, VT where we meet and leave our autos for the duration of the tour.Today if you come early there is a 22 mile optional ride.
Day 2 - Monday
Burlington, VT to Rouses Point, NY - 40+ Miles
We bike to the Burlington Waterfront for the one hour scenic ferry ride across Lake Champlain to Port Kent, NY. Once there, we travel along the shore of Lake Champlain through Plattsburgh, Chazy Landing, and arrive at Rouses Point, NY. Day two ends in the hamlet of Rouses Point on the shores of Lake Champlain. Tonight’s accommodations and dinner are at the Anchorage on the Lake Motel.
Day 3 - Tuesday
Rouses Point, NY to St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec - 30+ Miles
Today we cross the USA/Canadian border on our way to St. Jean-Chambly, Quebec, Canada, which is located only 20 minutes from Montreal by car. In St. Jean sur Richelieu, we have the option of visiting Fort Chambly, tasting a local beer, or visiting the town of St. Jean sur Richelieu-Chambly. Tonight’s accommodations are at the Auberge Harris Hotel which faces the Richelieu River in Quebec. Dinner is on your own tonight.
Day 4 - Wednesday
St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec to North Hero, VT - 50+ miles
After spending a night in Canada, we travel south on the Island Line Bike Rail Trail to the USA/Canadian border, crossing back in to the USA on the Vermont side of the border. We then cross over a bridge to the Island LaMotte, visiting the historic St. Anne Shrine and Stone Quarry. There we pick up the Lake Champlain Bikeway to North Hero, VT where we spend the night on the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain. Tonight’s accommodations and dinner will be at the North Hero House & Restaurant in the heart of the Lake Champlain Islands. *(NOTE: The Hero House has limited Lake front accommodations and we will be assigned rooms on first come-first served)
Day 5 - Thursday
North Hero to Burlington, VT - 45 Miles
This morning we cycle south along the lake’s shore, pedaling along the Grand Isle shore to South Hero, where we visit the Snow Farm Vineyards. Then condition permitting we will cross the Lake Champlain Causeway by using the Bike Ferry. Or, we use the bridge that spans Lake Champlain, passing Sand Bar State Park, the Sand Bar waterfront area, Colchester Causeway Park, Delta Park, over Winooski River Bridge, biking past Burlington Waterfront and continuing to the hotel where we left our autos. There, our tour ends and we hope all your memories are pleasant.
